About
Sophia Greben is a Bay Area based ceramic artist whos been exploring the field since 2018. Pottery began to consumer her life in high school and in 2019 she continued to study ceramics at San Jose State University. She is still currently working towards obtaining her BFA in Spatial Arts.
In 2022 after the effects of covid she decided to take a break from school to focus on personal projects and work experience. Getting a job at Clay Planet, a ceramic supply store in Santa Clara and learning about the industry while serving the local community. Eventually moving on to work for Western Glaze and learning about glaze production. Working here she has learned invaluable information that has deepened her appreciation of the craft. It has pushed her comfort zone to become more confident and to experience and learn more than she could have imagined.
Silvertooth studios comes from a need to create and to share with others. I have always had this desire to create. But what furthers that need is the feeling of sharing my work with others. It is like sharing a part of myself. Seeing how people react to what I produce from this part of me. It is a very personal feeling and a constantly changing one. As I grow and change so does my work and the feeling that comes with this. The focus of my work is in design and aesthetic. Exploring different areas of aesthetic has been a journey for me throughout my work. When I started I was attracted to whimsical themes relating to fantasy which are still reminiscent in my work today, while recently I have been interested in themes of cybersigilism and the neogoth aesthetic. I see my collections as time capsules that capture a part of me and solidify it in a piece of functional art. It is always fun to see my work evolve and change through the years as I do too.
